Food Is Fuel: What Mike Eats - Protein Shakes #5

Jan 18, 2019

Many of us want to be healthy and eat better, but getting in those healthy foods can be hard for some. Especially when it comes to leafy greens. Yes, those dreadful foods that you have feared since childhood. Luckily, our friend and Organic Muscle AthleteMike Kneuer from "WhatMikeEats" has these great protein shake recipes featuring some green goodness! These recipes make it quick and easy to incorporate greens into your diet with a great tasting shake.

Spinach is one of the most nutrient dense leafy greens on the planet. It is a bonafide superfood that can bring along powerful health benefits with it. I mean, Popeye did get his strength from spinach after all. Something that is now proven through the testing and discovery of essential vitamins and nutrients present in the plant.

It is probably the most common leafy green out there. Meaning most have heard of it or eaten it at some point in their lifetimes. Spinach is loaded with nutrients and antioxidants, which are the main reasons it's considered to be a healthy food. They are also responsible for the possible health benefits spinach brings to the table like the ability to benefit eye health, reduce oxidative stress, help prevent cancer and even reduce blood pressure levels

This superfood sounds super awesome! Everyone should be eating it right? Well the problem most face when it comes to gracious greens like spinach, is the taste. Or lack of a good one that is. Thats why Mike has come up with these awesome recipes incorporating this powerful plant to reap the benefits and reward yourself with it's great taste!

First up is this "Spinach Flax Protein Shake" where Mike packs the benefits of spinach into a sweet and fruity protein shake. To start it out, you will need a Nutribullet cup with 1 cup of Unsweetened Cashew (great recipe here) or Almond Milk. Next you will add in 1/2 cup of Organic Baby Spinach (washed), 1 tbsp Ground Flaxseed, 1/4 cup Frozen Mango Chunks, 1/4 Cup Frozen Pineapple and 1/2 Frozen Banana into the bullet cup. Now you will add 2 scoops of Organic Muscle Vanilla Vegan Protein to give it some protein power. The last thing Mike does is add in 1/2-1 cup of Ice as his personal preference and blends everything in the Nurtibullet until it's smooth.

If that tropical fruit style shake didn't sound so great to you and you're still looking to get in some spinach, Mike has another shake that might work better for you. This one is a play on a popular treat among many. One that might have you thinking of this as more of a dessert than a healthy protein shake.

I mean, who doesn't like mint and chocolate together? Especially a mint chocolate ice cream! That's exactly what this shake is going for. Mike once again starts things out with 1 cup of Unsweetened Cashew or Almond Milk in his Nutribullet cup. Next Mike adds 1/2 Frozen Banana, 1/2 cup Organic Spinach and 1/4 tsp Pure Peppermint Extract. Here comes the chocolate and the protein. Mike adds in 2 scoops of Organic Muscle Chocolate Protein and 1/2-1 cup of Ice. Once all the ingredients are combined, Mike blends them in the Nutribullet until it's smooth. To kick things up a bit, add in 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips!

With a little help from these recipes from Mike, you can easily incorporate that green goodness that spinach provides in to your daily routine. This will help you maintain your overall health and wellness while providing the many possible health benefits in the form of a sweet treat! Enjoy theses shakes, but more importantly, enjoy how they make you feel. Food is fuel, so fuel your body the right way and eat "WhatMikeEats."
