Why Buy Organic Supplements?

With all the different kinds of supplements from the many "Health & Fitness" companies out there, it can be hard to decide which products to go with. There are many factors to take into consideration when looking into these supplements. Like making sure they are free of the harmful additives that I covered in a previous article including lead, mercury, PCB's, hydrogenated oils and artificial colors. Something that seems like it could easily be avoided by buying products labeled "Natural", but even these products can contain harmful ingredients.

Supplement companies know that more and more people are seeking natural alternatives in foods, cleaning products, personal care products, clothes and more. They are taking in this information and and marketing their products in a way to appeal to these consumers. What a lot of these companies are not telling you is that they are cutting corners and using loopholes to make their "All Natural" products without your best interest and health in mind.

One of the easiest, most cost effective ways for them to do this is to use "GMO" or genetically modified ingredients. Because we do not require GMO's to be labeled in the United States or Canada, companies can use all kinds of GMO ingredients like sugar beets, corn and soy products in there "Natural" products. Soy, corn and sugar beets are big ones to look out for because they are the most widely produced. They are also turned into additives like soy lecithin, corn syrup and sugar. Ingredients that can be found in all kinds of foods and supplements!

So, whats wrong with these GMO's and why don't you want them in your supplements? It all starts out with the main purpose of most of these GMO's. That is to either withstand treatments of "Synthetic Chemical Herbicides" like Monsanto's "RoundUp" or they are genetically engineered to produce there own "Insecticide" from the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis or "Bt". This bacterium that is now in the food, will attack the intestinal lining of the incests that eat it and essentially kill them from the inside out.

Many nutritionists and naturopathic practitioners believe that this is the cause of the increase in irritable bowel and intestinal diseases. There just hasn't been enough research and time put into investigating it yet. However, this isn't the case with the use of the chemical herbicides and herbicide tolerant crops.

We know for sure that there is proof of the damage that "glyphosate", the active compound in RoundUp causes. Independent research strongly suggests that glyphosate residues “enhance the damaging effects of other food-borne chemical residues and toxins in the environment to disrupt normal body functions and induce disease.” This study isn't alone in proving the damage of this synthetic chemical herbicide.

According to Stephanie Seneff, Ph.D., a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Anthony Samsel, Ph.D., a research scientist and consultant, "Negative impact on the body is insidious and manifests slowly over time as inflammation damages cellular systems throughout the body." Samsel and Seneff have also published research tying glyphosate exposure to Celiac disease and gluten intolerance. 

If the independent studies and opinions of health and medical professional wasn't enough to convince you, maybe the $289 Million Dollar lawsuit that Dewayne Johnson won against Monsanto will. The court ruled that their weedkiller RoundUp likely caused his terminal cancer and they failed to warn consumers about the risk from their product.
